Seminar 7: Evaluating student teamwork using FeedbackFruits | 22nd November, 2023
Effectively working as a member of a team is a valuable skill all students need to develop before they enter the workplace. Incorporating teamwork into our learning and teaching practices can provide valuable experiences for students to develop these teamwork skills. As educators, it can be difficult to gain insight into a team's dynamic, and to assess student’s ability to work in a team. FeedbackFruits is a Moodle-embeddable platform which allows students to evaluate peer contributions to teamwork; making visible this learning process.
In this seminar, Catherine Fraser from FeedbackFruits will provide an overview of the platform and what can be achieved by using Feedback Fruits in your teaching. We will also hear from Dr. Jessica Biesiekierski from the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics and Food, who will discuss her experiences in using FeedbackFruits in her teaching.
Seminar 6:
Leveraging Formative Assessment to Drive Student Learning | 30th October, 2023
In this seminar, Educational Designer Scott Clarke will lead a discussion on how we can leverage formative assessment to help drive student learning. This discussion will be framed through a case study of a unit where summative assessment was redesigned into rich, engaging, formative assessment with a focus on building student agency in their own learning.
Seminar 5: Supporting mental health in unit design | 23rd August, 2023
We tend to think of supporting students by observing their behaviour, but in fact, the most impactful place to look for supporting the mental health of our students is actually in the proactive and considered design of learning and assessment tasks, information and activities with which our students engage. In this seminar, Dana will discuss strategies to develop your unit a in way that eases the workload pressures on your students, provides early feedback and normalises help-seeking behaviours.
Seminar 4: Eliciting and integrating student feedback | 2nd August, 2023
Join Scott and Dana in this seminar as they discuss strategies for eliciting, processing, and integrating student feedback to help improve your teaching. They will outline different types and methods of feedback collection, discuss ways in which you can analyse and action that feedback, and apply it in a way that indicates to the students that they have been heard.

Seminar 3: Designing ChatGPT-driven Assessment: hits, misses, and next steps | 28th June, 2023
Join Nicola Rivers, a senior teaching fellow for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, in this seminar as she shares her experience of implementing a ChatGPT-driven assessment this semester. Nicola will delve into task design and implementation, reflecting on what worked, areas for improvement, and unexpected surprises encountered along the way. If you're considering the use of ChatGPT in your assessments, Nicola aims to provide some practical guidance for getting started based on her experiences.

Seminar 1: Designing Invigilated Assessments | 3rd May, 2023
In this inaugural seminar, Educational Designer Scott Clarke will discuss designing invigilated assessments. As we move towards more rich and authentic assessment in our teaching, there may still be a place for invigilated assessments to help support student learning. This seminar will cover the “why, what, when and how” of invigilated assessments, and advice on how to implement a quality assessment regime.
