Q. Who can start a Zoom meeting?
A. A host or an alternative host. A co-host cannot start a meeting.
Q. Can I pre-assign my participants to breakout rooms?
A. Yes, you can do so when setting up a meeting. Ensure you have the following setting enabled:
Zoom has provided the use of
this template to allow importing rooms and participants.
Q. When I click on breakout rooms to use my pre-assigned rooms, I can only see the option to manually assign participants. Where are my pre-assigned rooms?
A. Since users also have the option to manually assign participants to breakout rooms during a meeting, a host should click on 'Recreate' in the breakout room toolbar and recover preassigned rooms.
Q. Why have some participants not been added to pre-assigned breakout rooms?
A. If participants have joined a meeting after breakout rooms have already been opened, they will need to be manually assigned to a breakout room.
Q. Why can't a participant view the chat history in the breakout room?
A. If a participant has joined a breakout room late they cannot view the previous chat history of their assigned breakout room
Q. Why can't I add a Monash user as an alternative host when scheduling a meeting (it says there is no existing account)?
A. If a user has never signed into Zoom, their account will not have yet been created. Ask the user to sign in first (which will create their account), after which you will be able to add them as an alternative host.
Q. Can I add a non-Monash user as an alternative host?
A. No, only licensed users on the same account can be added as alternative hosts.
Q. Can I run concurrent Zoom meetings?
A. No, see the following
link for possible outcomes.
Q. How many users can participate in a Zoom meeting?
A. Zoom sessions can support up to 300 participants (it is advisable not to exceed 50 participants when you have students accessing from China. In this instance, limiting the use of video would also be recommended).
Q. What is the limit on participants when using breakout rooms?
A. Up to 50 breakout rooms can be created with a maximum of 200 total participants across all breakout rooms
Q. Do I passcodes for Zoom meetings?
A. Yes, the university will enforce the use of passcodes starting from the 9th July 2020. Likewise, on a global level, Zoom will start to enforce this on 19th July 2020.
Q. What is the difference between a Password and a Passcode?
A. As part of this change, we are making the distinction of calling the codes that are unique to your meetings “Passcodes” and will no longer be referring to them as “Passwords.” Passcodes are meant to be shared with your invited meeting participants along with the meeting ID for access.
“Passwords” will refer to your Zoom account login credentials. Best practice security guidelines tell users to never share passwords.
Q. What if I don’t have a Waiting Room or Passcode enabled by July 9 2020?
A. If neither is enabled, Zoom will enable a Waiting Room for your meetings.
