What is Flash and how does it affect me?

Flash technology has been widely used for around 15 years to create interactive content for the web, including content to support teaching and learning.

All major web browsers, (Chrome, Firefox, Edge & Safari) have already begun phasing out support for Flash, and have announced that they will not display Flash content beyond 2020.

This means that if you currently use any Flash-based content to support your teaching, then you will have to make alternative arrangements if you want to continue using that content.

How do I know if I'm using Flash-based content?

eSolutions have provided us with a report listing all Flash content identified on Moodle.  That report, covering 2019 MNHS Moodle sites is attached.

The report also shows whether an alternative HTML5 version of the resource has been identified.  A "Yes" in that column indicates that the content may function beyond the end of 2020.

Please note that the report only identifies Flash-based content uploaded directly to Moodle.  It does not list links to, or Flash content hosted on other web sites.

My Moodle site has Flash content, what do I do?

There are different approaches depending on the content and how / where it was created.

1.  If you have no plans to continue using the content / resources, then you do not need to do anything.
