Turnitin - Integrated Moodle assignment

Creation date: 25/07/2018 15:44    Updated: 14/01/2020 10:51    assignment moodle turnitin

In recent improvements to Moodle, Turnitin is now fully integrated with the Moodle Assignment activity.  The advantage of the integrated Turnitin assignment is that it removes the necessity for students to submit to separate Turnitin and Assignment dropboxes.

Note that the existing separate Turnitin dropbox is still available.

As a result there are now two ways to use Turnitin.

1. Through the separate Turnitin dropbox that you have used in the past.

2.  Through the integrated Turnitin settings in the Assignment module.

The following instructions apply to Turnitin integrated into the Assignment module only.

Important note:  If you choose to use the integrated Turnitin Assignment you should delete any relevant separate Turnitin dropboxes from your Moodle site.  If you do not, it is possible for students to submit both, which will count as two separate submissions and generate a very high Similarity score!

In accordance with Faculty policy the following conditions apply when using Turnitin.

First and Second year undergraduate students - Students enrolled at a first or second year level will be permitted unlimited Turnitin resubmission attempts.

Third and Fourth year levels - Only a single submission attempt is permitted.

Postgraduate students - Students enrolled at the postgraduate level will be permitted a single submission attempt. The unit coordinator/chief examiner will have discretion to allow multiple resubmission attempts on a case-by-case basis in circumstances where essay based assessment may not necessarily have been undertaken at an early stage in the student's degree program.
